Calculus is tough but not impossible.

I have a love/hate relationship with calculus: it demonstrates the beauty of math and the agony of math education.

Calculus relates topics in an elegant, brain-bending manner. My closest analogy is Darwin’s Theory of Evolution: once understood, you start seeing Nature in terms of survival. You understand why drugs lead to resistant germs (survival of the fittest). You know why sugar and fat taste sweet (encourage consumption of high-calorie foods in times of scarcity). It all fits together.

Calculus is similarly enlightening. Don’t these formulas seem related in some way?

They are. But most of us learn these formulas independently. Calculus lets us start with “circumference = 2 * pi * r” and figure out the others —the Greeks would have appreciated this.

Unfortunately, calculus can epitomize what’s wrong with math education. Most lessons feature contrived examples, arcane proofs, memorization and abstract symbol manipulation that body slam our intuition & enthusiasm before they can put on their gloves.

It really shouldn’t be this way.

Wii2 = Project Cafe = Wii U… But will it blend?

After Nintendo finally unleashed their new console today, Wii U, at E3 2011, we at pnosker.com have the specs released by Nintendo for their new console. While it’s not called Wii 2 or Project Café or Current as some suggested, the Nintendo Wii U looks like a fantastic innovation in gaming and we have the news and specs after the jump.

We don’t know much about the console itself aside from the specs we previously gave you that make it much more powerful than the Wii, enabling it to project 1080p video. But the controller is the buzz of E3 2011 in Los Angeles. The convention center won’t be quiet about it.

50 Beautiful HDR Images from 50 World Cities !

HDR can make the ugliest, run down, industrialized cities seem appealing, and if you take quality HDR photographs of the most beautiful cities in the world thay seem to be captured from a different perspective, you seem to be able to view different elements of a familiar scene that you had never noticed before. Below, you will find 50 Beautiful HDR Images from 50 World Cities. Are any of these your city ?

In image processing, computer graphics, and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI or just HDR) is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminancesbetween the lightest and darkest areas of an image than standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods. This wider dynamic range allows HDR images to more accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes, ranging from direct sunlight to faint starlight.

The two main sources of HDR imagery are computer renderings and merging of multiple photographs, which in turn are known as low dynamic range (LDR)(also called standard dynamic range (SDR)) photographs.

Tone mapping techniques, which reduce overall contrast to facilitate display of HDR images on devices with lower dynamic range, can be applied to produce images with preserved or exaggerated local contrast for artistic effect.

Facebook Now A Victim Of “clickjacking” Worm !

Recently just couple of weeks ago, the giant in social networking Facebook was affected by a video spam and now it has been affected by a clickjacking worm. This time Facebook has been affected by its “like” buttons on popular subjects like the World Cup, the BP leak, the new Shrek movie and the UFC games or celebrities like Justin Biebers or Hayley Williams. Here at stephen’s goldenbox, I am giving you this latest news about this worm to save you from this disaster. The spam is that it shows you a link like “World cup 2010 in HD” or “Justin Bieber’s Phone number” or “Top Secret Video you’ve NEVER seen” which another Facebook user have already “liked” and joined the page. Actually this is that clickjacking worm which keeps on spreading through your Facebook profile if even you will “like” it. The sources says that it is not a malware link but it could be used to spread and deliver malwares across the web. Clicking on that link redirects you to another page where you will be asked to confirm if you are not minor. But this attack is still in its minor stage so it is not that harmful for your system or anything.

This worm uses “iframe” which is hidden on the page and in this case, if you click on that link, you will be clicking on the “like” button unknowingly so it would be better if you don’t click on any link which seem suspicious to you. The only thing which you will have to take care about is to make sure you don’t click on any of these suspicious pages for the time being and be safe. Well, I have a solution for you if you are a Firefox user. You just have to install this Noscript extension and with which you will be able to stop spreading this clickjacking and if you are already affected by this, I recommend you to delete all those suspicious links which has been published through your profile.

Be SAFE :-D

Get twitter feed on your wp blog

Twitter Feed

The Twitter Feed plugin makes including and linking to tweets on multiple Twitter accounts simple and flexible.

Download the plugin first from www.wordpress.org

Extract the “twitter-feed” folder from the downloaded file and put it in your WordPress “/wp-content/plugins/” folder so that the resulting path is “/wp-content/plugins/twitter-feed/”.

The plugin should now be viewable in the WordPress admin panel under the “Plugins -> Plugins” menu option. The plugin is entitled “Twitter Feed” and can be activated in the normal way by clicking “Activate” in the far right column.

First, click on the “Twitter Control” option found within the main “Plugin” menu, and you will be directed to the Twitter Control panel. From here you should be able to select which Twitter accounts to use, how many tweets you want to display, and various other options.

If you are restricting the amount of tweets on the front page, you can have a separate WordPress page displaying all the tweets from currently active accounts. To do this simply create a new page, give it a title/content etc and then add

[twitter]

exactly as it is written above including the square brackets, to add the Twitter application to the page. You will also need to select the page from the drop down menu in the admin panel, so that the plugin knows which page to link to.

Depending on how you use and implement WordPress/your website, you may have to use the widget control menu to position where the Twitter application will appear and be utilised. To do this simply visit the “Presentation -> Widgets” menu option, and position the plugin where ever you like. In some cases it will be necessary to perform this task for the plugin to appear on your web page.
